It's A Royal Knockout
These are my responses to part 1 and part 2 of the royal brief. We were given about an hour to completed each project during one of our lessons. The first picture shows what I think Kate Middleton and Prince William were thinking the day before the wedding. I draw an image of Kate tripping over as she walks up the isle for Kate's thought bubble and for Williams' I drew beer bottles (he's just thinking about getting drunk after the wedding). In the second picture, it shows my own thoughts about the Royal Wedding that we had to respond with using any kind of graphic design. I decided to use hand drawn type and a drawing of a small baloon. The reason I chose to make my design this small is because I was fairly excited for the wedding, but I wasn't over the top excited about it. I did however end up going to the wedding and it was a nice day out! I quite like projects like this where we have very tight deadlines to work to because it puts a good presure on you to think of a good idea and pretty quickly, which I quite enjoy doing.
Wish You Were Here!
These are my re-invention of the postcard, keeping only the concept. In the top picture you can see how the postcards look as they will be delivered, with the address of the recipient and the postage stamp. Then you remove the lid of the box to reveal the contents, and a message on the inside of the lid. The idea is that when you go on holiday, you can purchase these small clear boxes and you can fill them with whatever you like that you find on your holiday or that references the place that you are in. For example, for one of the postcards I have filled it with sand and other beach like objects. I have changed the idea of having a romanticised 2D image of the holiday destination on the postcard by using 3D objects that can be kept as memorabilia. During the class crit my classmates said that then liked my idea, however one thing that was said was the big blue clips on the boxes are quite chunky and it kind of distracts away from the delicate objects inside. So one way to improve my postcard idea would be to buy more plain styled boxes.
Iconoclastic Plastic
For my icon design I decided to recreate an already exsisting icon (Apple logo) and changed it by using a different fruit. I chose carefully which fruit that I was going to use as I knew some fruits wouldn't work as well as others. The famous Apple logo has a bite taken out of the apple so I needed a fruit that you could bite into, for example, a pineapple or a kiwi would not work for this. I researched the type that Apple had used and found that it was Times New Roman, and I also added the Registered 'R' for authenticity. I think this works as a logo and perhaps it could have worked just as well if Apple had decided to name their company Pear instead.

The Mile High Type Club
This is my giant letter A that I created out of roles of green display paper. It is taken from the font 'Broadway BT' and I have accurately represented it on a large scale. The A is 156 inches tall and this measures to 3.9624 metres. I drew this letter in my sketch book to begin with that measured at 6.5 inches tall, so I times that by 24 to get the measurements for the large A. I chose to times it by 24 because the A that I drew in my sketch book had a width of 2 inches of the thickest section of the A, and the roll of paper that I had was 48 inches wide. So this meant I could times 2 by 24 to make it fit. I used my mother in the shot of this picture so that you can scale just how big the A is in comparison.

Justin Bieber, No Fear
For this brief I chose to use Facebook to help me. As my status I wrote: Right guys - For my graphics class I am doing a project about JUSTIN BIEBER. If anyone would like to contribute, then please leave a comment with ur thoughts (any thoughts at all) of BIEBER himself here: thanking you xxx. I got about 19 comments from this status and about 97% of the people wrote something negative about Justin Bieber. I think Bieber is like marmite, you either hate him or love him.

The Silhouettes
For the 'Anarchy in the UK' project brief I created a concept band called 'The Silhouettes'. This is a band of four members who wear facial masks at all times and plain black suits. I had the idea of keeping their identity hidden because I wanted the band to concentrate on the music and spread their music to others without people being able to pre judge them by what they are wearing. The importance with this band lies within the music rather than image. It will also keep audiences guessing about the identity of the band members; the Gorillaz had four band members who were fictional characters, and even when they performed live they would have screens of the characters rather than actual people so no one knew what they looked like.
For the artwork I have used my own font for the title of the band that I created on Photoshop in a dark navy colour. I kept the navy as a colour theme in the poster and the 7 inch single. For these I have made an image of musical waves in white and bright blue - I decided to use this so that it would communicate 'music' to the audience. Otherwise the mask almost communicated 'theatre' to me, which I didn't want. I have used a lighting effect because it looks like it silhouettes the dark letters of the typeface.
For the 12 inch cover and the Tape Cassette I have changed the style so that they didnt all look exactly the same. I came across the cream colour background by dimming down the brightness of an image of a record that I drew in my sketch book. I like that it had a vintage feel about it.
I think this band has been influenced slightly by the Black Eyed Peas as I like this group and I have chosen a similar genre of music for The Silhouettes, which is alternative hip-hop mixed with dance.

Egg!
For the egg project, I decided to take a commercial route as I thought it wouldn't be the most obvious choice given that we had to make a project about an egg. I found that there is a nightclub in London called Egg so I decided to re-design their logo. I used an egg shape to form the top half of each of the letters, luckily each letter worked well with this. I chose to use a deep purple colour because to me this represents luxury to show that this is a good night club. I then added the lighting effects to look like strobe lights, which are visual references to the club. I like that the word egg is not obviously legible at first because it's difficult to make the word 'Egg' look good for the title of a nightclub, but I think I have worked around that to make a good logo.

Two Thousand And When
Creating this rocket ship was quite fun to do; I only used products that I found in my room including the paints so it was a low budget make too (although I think that is obvious). I used a loo roll, some cardboard, one sheet of paper, a water bottle and acrylic paint. Once I had made my rocket ship I photographed it and loaded it on photoshop where I added the background and flame effect. In the group crit people did mention that it did look cheaply made, and perhaps I could have researched real rocket ships so that I could have based the look around that. But still, I had fun making this and I hadn't made a rocket ship ever before!

Holiday Havoc
This is my response to the holiday havoc brief. For the first time I gambled; I did an accumilator for football. I also went on new years day with my boyfriend as there was football matches on that day. I was really glad that I did because I also won with one of my lists! My winnings were about twenty three pounds and I had paid one pound, so it was a very successful bet. In my design I have tried to encorporate all the elements including the actual printed list. I made it quite busy to give it excitement with big red exclamation marks. I like this design and I think the colours work well together too.

Too Much Tolkien Two
This is my re-design of the classic novel To Kill A Mocking Bird. I wanted to keep quite a classic style to my re-design because I don't think that it would suit a modern and abstract front cover as it wouldn't be in keeping with the essence of the book. I found an image of a mockingbird on the internet and I drew a copy of it in pencil. There were many things that I could have chosen to draw because there is so much that happens in this book but I couldn't chose which part was more significant than the others. Instead I just kept it simple by drawing the bird.

The 100 Club
This is my result from the 100 club project. I decided to take 100 different photos of buttons. Half of the photos are of individual buttons and the other half is taken from buttons on clothes. I did it this way because my friend had a small collection of buttons that I took photos of, but there wasnt quite 100 of them so I had to find other buttons elsewhere. I used Adobe InDesign to layout my photos and this was the first time I had ever used the software. I think I learned quite alot because I retained was I learnt here and used it for another project of mine.
Tokyo Wolf!
This is what I am going to send off to Tokyo. I have included all the things we were asked to send, and a CD of my 3 favourite songs will go in separetly. I have used Adobe InDesign to layout all of the images and I took a picutre from the Internet to use as my background - it's of the city of Tokyo from a birds eye view. I was happy with the print out because each of the images printed out very clearly with out any pixilation. To complete this A2 sheet, I used my knowledge of InDesign that I gained from the 100 club project where we were given a short tutorial on how to use it, as most of my class, including myself, hadn't used this software before.

A Perfect Crime
For my perfect crime that I came up with, I decided that it wouldn't matter what crime you commited as long as you were an indentical twin. They will have the exact same DNA so no one could prove exactly which twin did the crime, so they couldn't be put away for it.... I think. For my design I used stick men to represent the identical twins as it would be easy to make them look accurately the same, rather than trying to put too much detail into drawing someone. I added two drawings of DNA which are the same to show that they are indentical. Although I'm not quite sure this works very well in my design but I wouldn't know how to make this better. I like the tag line that I came up with however, because its a saying that is used but it also makes sense here with the message that I am trying to portray.

I Like Psych
This is an outcome based on an essay that I wrote about myself. I began by highlighting words in my essay that I could make illustrations of that I did in my sketchbook. They turned out quite well so I scanned them into photoshop along with a photograph that I took of a text book. I wanted this image so that the drawings could look as if they are coming out of the book, like ideas coming out of my head. I had the background photograph already that I took of the river and the London City Airport and I thought that it would make a nice background so I added that, and then I felt it needed some text. So I decided to actually add in my essay at the top of the page. Overall I'm not sure what I think of the design I think some bits work well and others not - perhaps the drawing element doesn't match with the rest of images? It does need some work though.
A Perfect Snowman
She may not be perfect but this is my attempt at making the perfect snowman, or snowoman. With a lack of resources like a carrot for her nose, buttons for the eyes and mouth, nor a hat or scarf, instead I improvised with black paint, tomato puree and two small twigs. I made her really small so that it would be easier to create perfectly round balls...however they still aren't quite perfectly round. But I think she looks cute anyway and I had fun making her.
Project 12
This project didnt have a title, other than Project 12. This was because the brief only consisted of an image. The image was of a girl with her hands on her stomach and looking at in whilst stood in a bathroom. We had to produce a piece of Graphics that we thought was relavant to the image. Firstly, I brainstormed down a few of my ideas about what could be going on in the picture and then I chose one to go with. I drew around the girl and added a set of scales underneath her. My idea was that the girl was self-concious of her weight like most girls are. So I placed the image on a background of dream like images of skinny celebrities that I cut out from magazines as if she was dreaming of being like them. I also added some hand drawn text on the girl which are the thoughts that are running though her head whilst she was stood on the scales. Overall I've decided that I'm not sure that this works altogether; I like my drawing of the girl but I think that maybe this gets lost with the busy backgrounds of the women in the magazine cutouts. I think perhaps the image of the girl would have worked better if it was stood by herself and enlarged to fit the page.
Research Musts!
This piece of work shows 20 new artists and designers that I researched in one day. I had to find 5 new Artists, Illustrators, Photgraphers and Graphic Designers that I hadn't heard of before and here are the ones I found. I was really interested in the Photography work that I found, particularly the work by Josef Sudek.
